Cachetur.no is five years old today, on May 17th – Norway’s National Day. Cachetur has roots further back, but it was on May 17th 2014 that cachetur.no as it is today was released.
If you are curious about how cachetur.no started, take a look on our timeline.
Local start
Cachetur.no started as a local tool, under the name Geocaching Haugalandets Turplanlegger (Geocaching Haugalandet’s Trip Planner). We weren’t even connected to the geocaching.com API in the beginning. Everything had to be added manually. And the printouts didn’t look anything like they do today.
We eventually got access to the API, and this was enough to get people other places in Norway interested. And from there, it didn’t take long until we were national. A name and a logo was chosen, and that’s how we became cachetur.no.
A lot has happened since we started
A lot has happened since we started in 2014. We’ve grown a lot, both in number of users and in features. We’ve managed to survive based on voluntary donations, and have been both ad-free and free to use since the beginning.
We went international in 2017 – not bad for what was meant to be a tiny local tool. Now we’re available in 7 different languages. And we even got our own app!
Cachetur.no has been showcased on events all around the world, and we’ll hopefully see more of this in the future.
A dedicated team
Our user support is world class, and most questions are answerred within minutes. This is thanks to a team of dedicated and skilled ambassdors, which in addition to support, also handle things like the help center, moderation, training and classes and participate in discussions about new features and the future of cachetur.no.
Thank you!
Thank you to all of you that have believed in us, all of you that contribute to keep us running, all ambassadors, all translators and all of you that just contibure positively to our community – you are the reason we’ve been able to grow to what we are today!
