We released version 1.6 of the app today. This is the largest update since we released v. 1.0.
The update should be available within the next hour on Google Play. It will take a couple days before it’s available on iOS, due to the iOS app review process.
Financing
We give the app away for free, just like cachetur.no. But this does not mean that it’s free to make. We have various expenses, like app store fees, and equipment and licenses needed to be allowed to submit the app to the app stores.
75% of the current expenses have been covered.
A huge thank you to those of you hat have contributed! You made this possible!
New waypoint view
The biggest change from the previous version is the new waypoint view. When you press a waypoint, you will be taken to a new screen. You may also long press to open the cache in your default geocaching application.
You can now register both arrival and departure, which can be practical if you forget to register arrival 😉
We have added more information, mainly things that are available in the default printouts. We do not intend to replace other geocaching apps, so we try to limit the information we add.
If you have enabled sync of your geocaching.com friends to cachetur.no, you will also get a nice list of friends that have found the caches directly in the app.
You will have to keep in mind that everything here is offline. Data won’t refresh unless you refresh the entire trip.
Saveable checklists
We added checklists in the previous version, now we’ve expanded that feature and added support for saveable checklists.
This feature will allow you to attach a checklist to a trip, and send the result of it to cachetur.no. All checklists you send back will be visible in the Post Trip Assistant.
Checklists are still offline, so you will need to create your checklist templates on cachetur.no and download them to the app before you can use them.
Sunrise and sunset
We have added a new screen, which allows you to see the calculated sunrise and sunset times for your current location. This feature is 100% offline.
Other improvements
The event list has gotten a map, which will adapt itself to your screen orientation.
Home has been renamed to Trips, to make it clearer that this is where you find your trips.
Section headers have now gotten their own style, which make them appear like the headers they were meant to be.
We have also fixed some bugs and made other smaller improvements, to hopefully make the app more useful and enjoyable to use.
